Back in 1993 , Disney inaugurate the audience to the Sanderson Sisters inHocus Pocus , conduct by Kenny Ortega . Hocus Pocustold the story of three witch who were string up in 1693 after killing a child to take her living effect and delay young forever and a day , but moment before their execution , the onetime sister , Winifred ( Bette Midler ) , cast a go that would bestow them back during a full moon on Halloween if a Virgo the Virgin lit the Black Flame Candle at their cottage .
Three centuries after , Max Dennison ( Omri Katz ) inadvertently uprise the Sanderson Sisters , and he , his baby Dani ( Thora Birch ) , and his crush Allison ( Vinessa Shaw ) hasten to stop them from drain the life forcefulness out of all the children in Salem . The Sanderson Sisters Weren’t “Evil” Enough In Hocus Pocus 2
The Sanderson Sisters were the playfulness resister ofHocus Pocus , where their main goal was to get as many children as they could to take their spirit military force , which would kill the minor but would keep the sisters young and allow them to live longer . Mary and Sarah even used their unique powers to get Salem ’s baby , with Mary ( Kathy Najimy ) being able-bodied to smell when a kid was nearby andSarah ( Sarah Jessica Parker ) using her mesmerizing voiceto lure the children to their cottage . Although the Sandersons rejoin and they should have been looking for some retaliation after their licking in 1993,Hocus Pocus 2toned down the Sandersons ’ “ evil ” and made them a lot softer and more comedic . The Sandersons ’ story this meter swear more on sisterhood and the bond between Winifred , Mary , and Sarah rather than on their malign plans and acts , and these changes were n’t well received by the audience .
Hocus Pocus 2 Relied Too Much On Nostalgia

Hocus Pocus 2’s Story Was Messy
Speaking of the story ofHocus Pocus 2 , along with the lack of “ evil ” in the Sanderson Sisters and the nostalgia divisor in it , the floor had too many subplots and not enough time to properly search each one of them . In addition to the restoration of the Sanderson Sisters and their plans to cast the Magicae Maxima spell to proceed populate after Halloween , Hocus Pocus 2followed the broken friendly relationship between Becca and Izzy andCassie ( Lilia Buckingham ) , the reveal of Becca being a Wiccan ( which leave many doubtfulness as it ’s unknown why she have powers ) , Gilbert and Billy ’s brief subplot , and the Sandersons ’ Leigh Hunt for Jefry Traske , the Mayor of Salem , Cassie ’s male parent , and descendent of Reverend Traske . Hocus Pocus 2jumped from one subplot to the other and left most of them without a proper conclusion and failed to explore them , leaving many unanswered questions .
Hocus Pocus 2’s Jokes Felt Forced
Another magnanimous complaint aboutHocus Pocus 2is its sense of wittiness and jokes . Of course , wreak the Sanderson Sisters to 2022 made way for a form of trick about how these charwoman from the 1600s would respond to the technology and more of the present day and how easily manipulate they could be , as Max did to them in the first movie , but alas , most of those jokes were just update version of the one in the original movie . Hocus Pocus 2saw the return of Billy as the Sandersons ’ call for his headspring for the tour , and he explained that he was n’t put back to nap in 1993 so he had been wait for the right moment to rise again . This time , however , Billy take a firm stand over and over again that he and Winifred only buss once , which was cite by young Winnie in the flashback , leaving a bunch of question about what exactly was their relationship , the supposed cheat with Sarah , and why he was kill .
