The superstrong Luke Cage , known during his entry as Power Man , is a superhero with a farseeing history in the Marvel Universe , but his current condition is that of a political leader rather than a vigilante . Even so , Thunderbolts # 1brings back batting cage ’s famous phrase - but the reference is no longer the Silver Age superhero devotee used to love .
Luke Cage is currently in a relationship with Jessica Jones , and as of 2021’sDevil ’s Reigncrossover issue , has begun a new career as the Mayor of New York City . Cage is quite popular among the citizenry of the city , and has vowed to undo the damagethat the Kingpin Wilson Fisk inflictedupon the urban center - particularly his law forbidding superhero action within New York . Technically speaking , that means the Avengers , Fantastic Four , and X - Men legally can not operate within the city boundary - even months afterDevil ’s Reignended - and so the bolt are the root .

Hawkeye leads the radical , but aftera battle with the Hulk villain Abominationand a showdown with US Agent leave behind buildings in ruination , Cage is furious . “Sweet Christmas!“he shouts after looking over the results of the fight . “I’ve got millions of buck in damages and people marvel if this team is any better than the corrupt goliath cops they had a few Clarence Day ago!“Cage , naturally , feels rather powerless in this moment ; despite being a superhero himself , he can only posture behind a desk and call out at Hawkeye .
