WhileR2 - D2is one of the most dear droid character in theStar Warsmythos , the franchise has introduced a unexampled droid - sidekick that is perhaps even more endearing than the loveable Artoo .

R2 - D2 made his unveiling inStar Wars : Episode IV - A New Hopewhere he proved to be inbuilt to the mission the principal characters were task with , then went on to practically steal every scene he was in for the balance of the franchise . Artoo is an astromechdroid with the Rebel Alliancewho has the capacity to play and record holographical message , hack into innovative information processing system systems , and even lease in strong-arm scrap with his taser and orbitual saw extension – not to mention his fossil oil glossy and rocket - pusher combo ( as seen inEpisode III ) . Not only is Artoo incredibly useful both in term of espionage and combat , but he also has a uproarious personality . R2 - D2 is a sassy smart - aleck who shroud his notoriously foul mouth behind his language of beeps and boops . Overall , R2 - D2 is a peachy fictitious character who ’s worthy of fans ’ passion – and the same can be said for this newly introduce droid : Skoot .

InStar state of war : The High Republic#3 by Cavan Scott and Ario Anindito , readers are introduced to a droid named Skoot while he and his partner , the cunning champion of this series , Tey Sirreck , pay a visit to the Temple of the Kyber and meets withthe Guardians of the Whills – a sacred order Tey shockingly used to be a part of . It is here where Tey is remind of when the two first met , and when Skoot was the brother of a grifter - nestling in the city named Flim . Back then , Skoot would pickpocket unsuspicious people while Flim distract them . Upon their first encounter , Tey flip a slice of fruit at Skoot to stop him from steal from someone . All three of them had a playful relationship , one where Skoot and Flim roleplay the loveable scamps while Tey was there to stop their troublemaking whenever he could ( without taking his role as an say-so fig too seriously ) . However , Tey and Skoot were chop-chop bonded over a divvy up tragedy when Tey discovered that Flim had been murdered by a local offense syndicate leader . Tey bump off the work party leader and left the Guardians of the Whills , and from that level on , it was he and Skoot vs the extragalactic nebula .

Skoot is Poised To Be ‘The R2-D2’ of The High Republic

In the previous issue , Tey Sirreck join force with a Jedi and a Padawan after he and Skoot economise their lives . This puts Skoot ’s journeying on practically the same flight as R2 - D2 ’s over the course of the Star Wars franchise . R2 - D2 teamed up with Jediduring all three major eras of the Star Wars photographic film , and now Skoot is doing the exact same thing – though that ’s far from the only affair the two droids have in plebeian . Skoot and Artoo are also both foul - mouthed droids who hide their inappropriate nomenclature behind buzzes and beeps , and both are lovable scamps . While Skoot is more of an outlaw than Artoo , both are ill-famed for getting into difficulty . Plus , they are both uncoerced to fight back when the french fries are down as Skoot is show using a flash grenade in this return while Artoo has display his fighting skills many times over .

Skoot is a wicked - mouthed , down - to - contend , pickpocket - wrick - heroic droid with the same energy as R2 - D2 and a tragic backstory that arguably makes him even more lovely than Artoo . Plus , Skoot even has a fun soubriquet : Fruit - Face , which was dedicate to him by Tey after he threw a piece of yield at Skoot to intercept the droid from pickpocketing someone . All - in - all , Skoot checks every box that constitutes beinga greatStar Warsdroidside - kicking – perhaps , even more so than evenR2 - D2himself .
