Screen Rant : Thanks so much for taking the time to claver , Mark ! As one of the Challengers with the longest tenure on the show , how did it feel going into excretion first onThe Challengeseason 40 ?

Ah , well . First of all , that first competition – it ’s always uncomfortable and anxiousness - inducing when you ’re stlil working on your puzzle and the great unwashed are end the challenge . That ’s always a bad start.[laughs]I’m very ocular , so when TJ [ Lavin ] was like , ‘ you ’re going to run down there and you ’re going to progress this puzzle , it ’s a 40 ’ , I always like to see what I ’m build . I had no clue what I was build – I should ’ve thrown my box seat in the water at that compass point .

expire into an elimination first , which I ’ve never done – I ’m commonly the guy wire that does okay , it ’s a little nervewracking . Plus you ’re in the firm with forty people , and that ’s a challenge in itself . It ’s never fun going in first – the only thing that I guess made it sufferable for all of us going in was that it was 16 people go in . So , it was n’t that great , but I had fellowship so I was [ okay ] . Nurys [ Mateo ] was like , “ can you trust we ’re going in ” and Paulie [ Calafiore ] was like , “ this suck , ” but I was like , yeah , but we have each other . So allow ’s join in our failure[laughs ] .

Screen Rant : slap-up to have that kind of camaraderie .

Yes !

Screen Rant : So , Derrick [ Kosinski ] volunteered to go up against you in this liquidation . As a actor , do you have more respectfulness for someone who steps up like that , or someone who tries to evanesce into the background knowledge ?

Derrick is consider a brother outside of this for me , and what they did n’t show is that we had conversation operate up to the deliberation room . Myself , Derrick , and Darrell have a really tight alliance , we call ourselves the Triangle , and Derrick ’s the tip of that Triangulum .

I was n’t surprised and kind of … gave him my blessing [ to volunteer ] . I went into it like this , a win for me or a winnings for Derrick was a profits for both of us . When I left the backbone that night , I was hoping that his profits sacrifice him authority and some tip beneath his sail to keep him going through this . I ’ll be his number one fan going forward . That ’s just how Derrick is built – Darrell and I have always said , if you want to pick a guy cable to go in with and the last two that get out are going to win , you pick Derrick . He has no quit , his heart is bigger than all of us , and he ’s just so great at that biz . He said,“when I die , I think pole wrestle should be on my tombstone because I retrieve I ’ve mastered it . ”Giving him that rival is like give a firedog a ivory . I render to lay on him , do different stuff , but my rangy consistence just did n’t do as well as I think it would .

Screen Rant : You advert that you and Derrfick are quite close – you hump Derrick , you know magnetic pole wrestle , what ’s your headspace like going into this elimination ? How are you mentally train there ?

Well , I think I remember Derrick turned to me and was like,“don’t hurt me . ”I was like , do n’t ache you ? Do n’t hurtme . You’re easily at this than me ! It ’s comical , because anyone else – there was no animosity there . I guess that was my first error . If it was anyone else from a different earned run average , I would ’ve maybe gotten a petty meaner or angrier before , but because there was no animosity and we ’re so tight , I do n’t know if that played against me . You want to do a good job , but I fuck I was in spoilt chassis because my forearms interlock up about midway through . I was like , maybe I ’ll do a front flip – maybe that ’ll look cool on boob tube .

Screen ranting : The front flip waswild .

The Challenge

I cogitate it look cool on the show ! But , yeah … he ’s the master of that , and I ’ve just suppose at this item , if you need a replay , I ’m operate to fly to your house , we ’re move to do it in your front 1000 with no cameras , and you ’re going to teach me some dear strategies .

Screen Rant : Oh , there call for to be cameras for that . Looking back , you ’ve been withThe Challengefront the very beginning , what ’s your braggy detail of superbia having been on the show ?

Earlier on , I mean it was just the fact that I was in an era that was so new and fan really spellbind tight to the dad polish nostalgic smell of what the show was . small fry that have uprise up with us now , I ’ve always said they ’re the best buff that I ’ve ever met , and a lot of the meter you ’ll meet hoi polloi who are like , hey , I watched you when I was 21 and now I watch you with my small fry . That ’s cool for me , just the seniority of how long I ’ve been capable to play . Also , I believe latterly , I ’ve been capable to give a flock of praise and a lot of tending to my ma ’s cancer condition . She ’s had stage 4 [ tit cancer ] sinceAll - Starsseason 1 , she ’s now in her fifth twelvemonth of battling cancer . I ’m super proud that I ’ve gotten to shine a light on breast cancer and getting checked , getting screen , getting mammogram and all that stuff . It kind of work my mom smile when fans get to out [ to ask about her ] and tell apart me to tell her they ’re pray for her . Anything I can do at this point to beam a positive sparkle on my mom ’s stipulation even though it ’s a terrible condition is a really large thing .

It ’s queer , I feel like I ’m more relevant now than I was back in the ‘ 90 ’s . I think with the Parousia ofAll - Starsand how pop that was , and the fans backed that … I sense like it ’s just getting so much attention . I was in New York doing press and people stopped me on the street want pictures , it ’s coolheaded . I ’ve never been the a**hole , so a lot of people come on me like they cognize me – it ’s nice to have that repute of being a pioneer of the biz , but to be one of the ones that the fans have take a liking to over the years and feel very committed to me . It ’s nice .

Screen Rant : That ’s incredible . After the elimination , TJ revealed that you ’d have some business leader even out of the biz with the Karma Vote . Having power after you ’ve been do away with is not distinctive – what did you think of the Karma Vote and how ’d you make your decisions with it ?

You know , it was crazy – there was all this talk of a redemption house pre - show , and when TJ was like,“hey guys , stick around,”for a moment we were all like , thinking he was going to announce there was a buyback theater … then when he flipped the playscript and give us that power , it was cool . It ’s cool because , although we were out of the game , it still let you feel like at some point your vote and your remark would affect the game in a big way . I wo n’t give anything away , but it definitely at some point is going to really alter the game … it ’s live on to be interesting to see how that plays out . I went moderately heavy on my sensation for Era I and II , because I ’m quondam schooltime , and then it kind of tapered off as I snuff it to Eras III and IV , which I remember was kind of bear for me . Again , it ’s definitely unlike to have a little power when you go forth – it was nice .

Screen Rant : I ’m very excited to see how it play out ! Last motion , to the extent that you ’re capable to share after this monolithic 40th season , what ’s your hereafter withThe Challengelook like ?

I ’ve always said this – now withAll - Starsand a metempsychosis of [ Challenge ] popularity , I feel like I ’m just getting warm up up . I experience like there ’s many more seasons for me to have – whether that ’s with the regular franchise orAll - Stars … or I could possibly branch out to other shows in the reality competitor space , so I ’m super aroused . I ’ve never felt physically better , which is great . I still think at the end of the day , when you ’re face around and wonder who ’s relevant in this space , I still sense like I ’m out there as one of the figure that gets talked about and rooted for , so that ’s all I can ask for . The headline of this interview should be,“the Godfather is just buzz off started,”that should be it – because age has never been anything but a number for me , I ’ve always gone by how I feel , and I experience fantastic . Like I said , the next time you find oneself me in the sand , I ’m getting a W. You heard it here first .
