The season stopping point ofThe Challengeis always explosive , but according to showrunner Emer Harkin , season 36 ’s last is one of the hard in the show ’s story — and it almost did n’t materialise . The two - part final is halfway through , and fans are eager to see which team takes home the grand plunder of $ 900,000 . The conditions has been accommodative throughout the time of year , but a hurricane crashed the final and almost derail the end . However , Harken assures fans that not only did the show go on — it ’s one for the record books .
The challengers have fought and strategized throughout the season and the only thing standing between them and the grand loot is TJ Lavin ’s terminal . The teams to make it to the closing are Fessy and Kaycee , CT and Amber B. , Kam and Cory , and Leroy and Nany . All four squad are unforced to do whatever it takes to win , and the element seem to be putting them to task . The showfilmed in the blunt but beautiful Iceland , and though for the rest of the season the weather had been stable , Harkin revealed that condition could n’t have been bad for the final .

“ We were take in Iceland and in a hurricane , ” Harkin said , according toUs Weekly . “ It was awing , but also a really precarious billet to be in as a producer because you ’ve acquire to keep everybody safe and you want to deliver something that looks awful . ” Harkin point out that the final was supposed to feature “ glassy lake and dreary sky and gorgeous snowcap mountains,”but that because of the hurricane , the final “ looked absolutely nothing like the final that I reconnoitre . ”
