Alvin Olinsky ( Elias Koteas ) mentored Adam Ruzek ( Patrick John Flueger ) at the beginning ofChicago PD , and now there ’s another recruit fresh out of the Academy on the show . In the pilot program episode , Intelligence needed a new face to help with their investigation , so Olinsky proceed to the Police Academy to find one . While the teacher was try on to sell him on who he thought was the serious trainee , Olinsky choose one look at Ruzek ’s self - assertive attitude and said , " we ’ll take him . " Olinsky mentored him into the police military officer he is today .
InChicago PDseason 9,Dante Torres ( Benjamin Levy Aguilar)graduated from the Academy when he was assigned to Intelligence . The department was letting trainee see the unlike expanse of the law force they could lick in . He was enthusiastic , just like Ruzek , but a seed of doubt about his character was planted , which made Jay Halstead ( Jesse Lee Soffer ) wonder his loyalty , especially give where Torres grow up . It was n’t untilChicago PDseason 10 that Torres became an official team fellow member .

A Great Throwback To Olinsky Mentoring Ruzek
It was cracking seeing Ruzek take Torres under his flank inChicago PDseason 10 episode 10 , " The Job . " First , Ruzek takes Torres to a poker plot to meet more police officers . Then Ruzek helps sustain Torres ' suspicions about Detective Borkowski ( Tom Lipinski ) and decides what to do when they realize they have a corrupted officer on their hands . It ’s clear this is an open - end plot line because Ruzek say Borkowski is only getting aside with it for now . This could contribute to Ruzek continuing to take Torres under his wing like Olinsky did when he was novel out of the Academy .
It was fun watching Ruzek be the ex-serviceman pig like Olinsky was . Olinsky and Ruzek made a skilful squad when they were paired together , as Alvin molded Adam . It was a great moral force that the show has been missing . It ’s also a great tribute to Olinsky that Ruzek could pass on the noesis the belated tec conk down to him .
Ruzek Is The Right Person To Mentor Torres
While it first appear thatHalstead would mentor Torresbecause they were pair together in Torres ' first few episodes , it makes more common sense that Ruzek is the mentor . Ruzek was the one that was mentored when Olinsky took him out of the Academy . Torres coming out of the Academy and getting assigned to Intelligence is a tightlipped analog to the beginning ofChicago PD .
Olinsky broke the linguistic rule at time to get justice . While Ruzek never goes that far , he certainly paints the line when he ’s on cases . Torres is much the same because he ’s been protecting his loved ones by doing what he needs to . Ruzek can avail Torres persist in to serve his loved ones and do commodity for Chicago by teaching him how to bend the rules but not break them .
The chemistry between Ruzek and Torres is similar to Ruzek and Olinsky ’s because Ruzek is firm with Torres , and Torres never quite knows if Ruzek is on his side . Olinsky was the same with Ruzek . Being a detective is n’t easy , specially inDetective Hank Voight ’s ( Jason Beghe)unit . Olinsky prepared him for the problem , and it would be fun to see Ruzek do the same for Torres . Chicago PDhasn’t officially made Ruzek Torres ' wise man , but it ’s opened the door for that possible action .
