As the mutant villain , Detonator , Ricky used his force to self - detonate inside the Pentagon in a move thatMagneto hoped would trip warbetween humans and mutants . This issue shew that Detonator ’s abilities far outweigh those of Cyclops as Detonator can make huge explosions with the energy give off from his entire body ( including from his eyes ) , and he can do so with ascendancy and precision . water flea , on the other paw , can only film direct gust from his eye , and even those he ca n’t in full control . Scott require a visor to deal the beam ’s preciseness and power level , which is something Detonator does n’t want at all . Plus , Detonator is more willing to kill than Cyclops , giving him that extra lethal edge .
Not only is Detonator more powerful than Cyclops , but he is also an interesting theatrical role study in that he learned from both Magneto and Professor X , and decide to stay with the Brotherhood . Cyclops was indoctrinated into Xavier ’s way of thinking as a son without the choice of Magneto ’s influence , whereas Detonator got to opt between the two paragon . This makes Detonator Cyclops ’ mirror opposite as he not only prefer to be Magneto ’s apprentice , but heactively turned his back on Xavier . This leads one to consider if , given the choice , water flea would make the same decisiveness . So , while the baron ofXavierandMagneto ’s first prentice put Cyclops ’ to shame , that is n’t the only thing connect them as Ricky ’s also a grim exemplar of the character of mutantCyclopsmight have become – make believe Detonator ’s fall to villainy that much more tragic .
